Beyond Issues to Action
The future of the nation’s public health system is very much in flux today. Pandemic-related stresses remain and there are longer-term issues confronting public health—addressing long-term funding challenges, improving data systems, confronting health equity, bolstering the workforce and strengthening community partnerships.
During the spring, the first four summits in the Lights, Camera, Action: Future of Public Health series concluded, and recordings, full and action-focused reports, and podcasts for each summit are available on the summit website. These reports build on the topics of each summit and include ways that we can work together to build a more robust, resilient and equitable public health system for the future.
The series included four virtual convenings, focused on achieving a diverse and effective public health workforce, data modernization, public health law, governance and finance, and cross-sector partnerships and community engagement. Each convening is meant to build upon and complement areas of focus from the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Public Health Forward: Modernizing the U.S. Public Health System.
The summit series is a collaboration of the CDC Foundation, the National Association of County and City Health Officials, Association of State and Territorial Health Officials and Big Cities Health Coalition. Summit support is generously provided by United Health Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and The Pew Charitable Trusts.
We encourage you to read and share all of these reports, and we hope the action steps within are helpful guides as we all work to improve public health and achieve a more equitable future.
