Honoring Georgia's Giants in Public Health
Last evening the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) recognized a prestigious group of Georgians for their work to champion public health and transform and improve the lives and well-being of communities across Georgia, the nation and around the world.
The CDC Foundation’s President and CEO Dr. Judy Monroe was one of the honorees, along with recipients from a variety of Georgia-based organizations, including government and non-government organizations and public and private universities.
Recipients of the Georgia Giants in Public Health honor were:
- Jimmy Carter, former U.S. president, Carter Center
- Rosalynn Carter, former first lady, Carter Center
- James Curran, MD, dean of Public Health, Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University
- Michael Eriksen, ScD, dean of Georgia State University’s School of Public Health
- Brenda Fitzgerald, MD, commissioner, Georgia Department of Public Health
- Bill Foege, MD, senior fellow, health policy, The Carter Center
- Tom Frieden, MD, former CDC director
- Jeff Koplan, MD, vice president for Global Health, Emory University
- Judy Monroe, MD, president and CEO, CDC Foundation
- Gary Nelson, PhD, president, Healthcare Georgia Foundation
- David Ross, ScD, president and CEO, Task Force for Global Health
- David Satcher, MD, founding director and senior advisor Satcher Health Leadership Institute
- Wade Sellers, MD, former Northwest district health officer, Georgia Department of Public Health
- Louis Sullivan, MD, chairman and CEO, Sullivan Alliance to Transform Health Professions
