The widespread destruction caused by Hurricane Fiona in Puerto Rico and Hurricane Ian in Florida and South Carolina has caused catastrophic flooding impacting rivers, roads, houses and most critically, the lives of our neighbors. Now, more than ever, our neighbors in coastal areas, as well as those further inland, urgently need your support to recover from these emergencies.
Please join with us through a gift to the CDC Foundation’s Emergency Response Fund to mobilize an emergency response to aid in the recovery.
When a hurricane hits, houses and buildings are damaged or destroyed from winds and flooding. Homes, schools and health care facilities lose power. In addition to immediate destruction, there are also long-term health threats associated with an extreme weather event like a hurricane. Our neighbors urgently need our help now and in the days ahead to mitigate the dangerous health impacts of these extreme weather events.
Following past hurricane seasons, the CDC Foundation has worked with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and departments of health in affected states and territories to meet certain immediate needs where federal funding is not available. Our past recovery efforts have included purchasing initial supplies used to develop mold prevention kits to address harmful mold issues in homes and buildings; sending supplies, such as food, batteries and generators; facilitating the shipment of lab samples to be tested for dangerous diseases; supporting important health communication efforts; and supporting longer-term strategies with the aim of strengthening public health systems.
When a health threat strikes, speed saves lives. Your generous gift will provide funding for the following response efforts that continue to threaten health long after the storm passes:
- General and medical shelter surveillance for infectious disease outbreaks
- Public health messages and risk communication
- Water, sanitation and safety evaluations for food and water
- Mold abatement
- Treatment and prevention of carbon monoxide poisoning
- Mosquito management from standing water to prevent dengue fever and other vector-borne diseases
Our neighbors urgently need our help now and in the days ahead. With your support we can help address serious health and safety hazards from Hurricanes Fiona and Ian. Join with us to make an impact and save lives by making a donation to the CDC Foundation’s Emergency Response Fund.
Together our impact is greater. Give now.
