Welcoming Shirley Franklin and Kristen Silverberg to the CDC Foundation Board of Directors

Our team at the CDC Foundation is pleased to share some exciting news about two new additions to our board of directors. Former Mayor of Atlanta Shirley Franklin and former Ambassador to the European Union Kristen Silverberg are now on our board, working with our other board members to support and guide the CDC Foundation.

Mayor Franklin and Ambassador Silverberg both bring incredible breadth and depth of experience and will be instrumental to our team at the CDC Foundation as we continue to support and extend CDC’s mission to save and improve lives.

In 2002, Mayor Franklin was the first African-American woman elected mayor of a major Southern city. She served two terms, leaving office in 2009. Currently Mayor Franklin serves as executive chairman of the nonprofit Purpose Built Communities and as president of Clarke-Franklin & Associates, Inc.

Ambassador Silverberg served in the George W. Bush Administration as U.S. Ambassador to the European Union from 2008 to 2009 and as assistant secretary of state for international organization affairs from 2005 to 2008. She is currently a managing director at the Institute of International Finance.

The 15 members of the CDC Foundation board represent a strong and diverse group that are dedicated and passionate about working with CDC to protect the health, safety and security of America and the world.
