Companies Step Forward to Keep Healthcare Workers Safe

When the novel coronavirus hit the United States, the first step was to ensure the hospitals had enough of the right equipment, medications and personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect our frontline healthcare workers caring for COVID-19 patients.

Given the rapid spread of the virus, it was clear that PPE was an urgent need. Thankfully, many companies were willing to contribute at this unprecedented moment. In March of this year, Magid, a PPE manufacturer, joined Google in their pledge to help increase the production capacity for PPE. Their pledge was to provide 3 million masks to the CDC Foundation.

This week, Magid and Google fulfilled their promise of the 3 million masks. The PPE donations went to approximately 14 states/territories and 25 state and local health organizations within those state/territories in 10 weeks. States that received the donation include California, New Jersey, North Carolina, New York, Michigan, Illinois, Texas, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Florida, Washington, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and the USVI. Donations ranged from 5,000 to over 250,000 masks depending on the need of the health organization.

“Personal protective equipment has been a critical need for frontline health and public health workers in many areas across the country,” said Judy Monroe, MD, president and CEO of the CDC Foundation. “The CDC Foundation is pleased to have been able to work with partners, Google and Magid, to provide personal protective equipment to meet many demands in 25 state and local health organizations across the country.”

During this challenging time, the commitment of companies willing to generously donate to CDC Foundation to support the fight against coronavirus continues. Afterall, we are all in this together.
